WND News published an article with the title “How atheist's crusade brought us Obamacare” with the unfortunate subtitle of “Landmark school-prayer case has sinister connection to Supreme Court today”.
From the article:
In an interview with WND, Murray spoke of the Engel v. Vitale case as one of the key Supreme Court decisions that inevitably led to the federal government getting involved in health care.
“Though it wasn’t as far-reaching and it didn’t affect the lives of everyday Americans as much as this case did today, the case [Engel v. Vitale] was a precursor to the case that removed Bible verses and prayer from school,” said Murray, whose book, “My Life Without God,” documents what his young life was like growing up with a committed communist like O’Hair as his mother.
“The 1963 case was one of the troika of cases that worked to destroy the basic family unit,” Murray explained. “One of the striking things about Obamacare is that it was pushed and promoted out of its necessity because of the breakup of the family. There is no one to take care of the family, because of this.
“Medical care since the time of Genesis was always a family responsibility,” Murray said. “But because government has interfered in the family, and because it has eliminated the three-generation household and eliminated the ability for families to take care of their own, the individual mandate becomes mandated.
“That necessitated intervention, in the eyes of the state,” he concluded.
What is it with these people? Every time they don't get their own way or something unfortunate (in their view) happens, they point towards keeping secular schools…secular. They rail against not being able to shove their religion down everyone's throat.
It's like they saw ObamaCare and said to themselves; who can we blame? Ah, it's those damn atheists. Damn them for not wanting their children indoctrinated against their will. Screw them for going to court and winning. How dare they protect religious freedom!? If only we were allowed to force children to pray and listen to Bible passages in public schools, everything would be right in the world.
Listen, Murray, when the court ruled that mandatory prayer was against the constitution, it in no way shape or form meant that you or anyone else can't pray if you choose. Kids can privately pray constantly if they wish. They just can't force others to pray along with them.
ObamaCare has absolutely nothing to do with that court ruling or with atheism. There are probably plenty of atheists who are against ObamaCare for various reasons.
Also, that court ruling against mandatory prayer has nothing to do with the ‘breakup of the family’. Forcing people to pray in school is not going to turn back the clock or make the world a magical fairy land like you seem to want it to be.
He also goes on to attack the sale of birth control:
The two other cases that Murray spoke of include Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion, and Griswold v. Connecticut, which ruled that the Constitution protected a right to privacy. This case revolved around a Connecticut law that prohibited the use of contraceptives, which the Supreme Court invalidated on the grounds it violated the “right of marital privacy.”
“This was the case that permitted the sale of birth control pills, which led to making the organism more important than having children, which in combination with Roe v. Wade and what my mother did worked to destroy the family in America,” Murray said. “It basically mandated the government health-care mandate. ”
It didn't mandate anything. Griswold v. Connecticut took place in 1965 for crying out loud. Birth control isn't destroying anything. Why do people like Murray worry so much about what other people are doing in the bedroom?
There is nothing sinister going on. People can pray while on school grounds or off and people can use birth control if they choose and if someone is against birth control, nobody is going to force them to use it.
And neither of those things have anything to do with ObamaCare.
